Welcome to the Gwydir Valley Cotton Growers Association web site, and welcome to the cotton industry.

The Gwydir Valley is located in north-west New South Wales, Australia , approximately 620km from Sydney . It is centered around the vibrant rural town of Moree , which is nestled along the banks of the Mehi River .

Moree is well serviced by public transport, with bus rail and air-links from Sydney and Brisbane.

Moree is well known as the Artesian Spa Capital of Australia, with many opportunities to soak in the hot underground mineral waters.

Cotton has been grown in the region since the construction and opening of Copeton Dam in 1976, and it is now Australia 's premier cotton growing region. In addition to growing Australia's best cotton (and many would argue the world's) the Moree district is also a major grower of grains, such as wheat, barley and sorghum, beef, and it has an emerging horticultural industry based on olives and citrus.

This web site has been designed to provide you with a brief insight into the Association, and the opportunities the Gwydir cotton industry has to offer.

For more information on the dynamic Australian cotton industry this site offers a whole host of related links that can take you on a virtual tour of what is Australia 's most exciting rural industry.

REMINDER - 2012/2013 Membership Levy are now overdue. There are two levels of membership:

  1. Full membership for those directly involved in growing either irrigated or dry land cotton.  New and part-time growers are welcome.  Full members receive one vote at meetings; and
  2. Associate membership for those non-grower interested parties who wish to attend Gwydir Valley Cotton Growers Association meetings and receive information with no voting rights.

The continued support for your organisation is vital, if the industry is to be well represented at local, state and federal levels.

In response to the growth in the industry over the past 12-months the Association has once again been the first point of contact with regards to industry policy issues and will continue to focus on re-establishing area-wide grower management groups as a support network for local growers

Membership forms can be downloaded here.  For more information contact the office.
