Employment Opportunities

The cotton industry offers a wide range of employment opportunities both on and off-farm, casual and full-time. The industry has a well deserved reputation of being at the cutting-edge of technology, and offers employees an opportunity to work with modern plant, in a safety conscious environment.

The GVCGA can help to liaise between potential employees and employers who are members of the Association.

Casual Employment

Numerous opportunities exist all year round, but there is particular demand from the start of the summer irrigation season (December) to the completion of picking and ginning (July).

Positions include tractor and machinery operators, irrigators, cotton chippers and ginners.

The positions can be particularly attractive to international backpackers, and the Association is happy to offer advice on visa requirements, pay ranges, accommodation availability, etc.

Full-Time Employment

There is strong demand within the Gwydir Valley for farm managers, machinery operators, welders, mechanics, bookkeepers, and agronomists.

The cotton industry has a solid reputation of providing superior agricultural remuneration and conditions. Enquires from within Australia and overseas are welcomed.
